GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac and Remote Pricing and Imminent Release

May 31st, 2012 No comments

I am not much one for rumors, so here is what I know. I have been stalking the upcoming release of the Wi-Fi BacPacâ„¢ + Wi-Fi Remote Combo Kit from GoPro ever since I knew it was coming out. I was hoping to have it for One Lap of America, but alas it was pushed back to a nebulous “summer” release date.

Nautique Rear Lid Shock Repair

May 27th, 2012 No comments

Today’s project was coming up with a repair option for a stripped out screw hole on the back of the Nautique.
The design of the 2007 ski nautique 196 has a dual folding lid that opens up to a storage area for gear and shorter skis. There are some gas shocks that control the opening and closing of the lid. After years of use the screws started to pull out of the deck lid.
While the boat is not quite ready for a new deck lid, the stripped hole represents a problem.
As a temporary fix to this problem, I used an expanding brass thread insert, which would wedge its way into the composite and provide a secure mount for a 1/4-20 bolt. I did have to drill the mounting bracket out to fit that bolt, but it seems pretty solid so far. I will report some long term results. I may end up replacing them all if it works.
